 That “Library Thing” comes to the KeysMonroe County Public Library is the first Florida library to add LibraryThing for Libraries service.
LibraryThing, the wildly popular social networking site, is now enriching the Monroe County Public Library’s online catalog. Over 80% of the Library’s books now feature informal subject “tags”, “If you like this book…” recommendations, and a list of other editions available at the Library. The new service is based on the collective knowledge of nearly 600,000 book-loving LibraryThing contributors.
Mnroe County is the first Florida library to subscribe to LibraryThing. Other subscribing libraries include: Seattle Public Library, Portland (ME) Public Library and Suffolk Co. (NY) Public Library system. Says Monroe County Director of Libraries, Norma Kula, “We are expanding our e-Library to better serve our 24/7 customers. LibraryThing is a powerful and fun discovery tool!”
