Hurricane Katrina Debris Removal
Monroe County will begin storm debris collection in the unincorporated areas of Monroe County and in Key Colony Beach on Thursday September 1, 2005.
Residents should separate vegetative debris from non-vegetative storm debris and place items at curbside for pick up. Seaweed should be kept separate from vegetative and other debris.
Only storm related debris will be collected. For pick up of other items such as household appliances, bulk items (furniture) and regular construction debris, residents should contact their regular waste hauler:
Waste Management – 296-8297
Mid-Keys Waste – 743-5165 or 664-4994
Key Sanitary – 451-2025
Ocean Reef – 367-2611
Residents on private roads must bring their storm debris to the closest public right of way for pick up. Monroe County Public Works crews are available to assist residents with moving their debris to the public right of way if residents call and request assistance.
To request assistance from Public Works, residents in the Lower Keys (Stock Island to Big Pine Key) should call 292-3519, and in the Upper Keys residents should call 852-7161. In order for Public Works to collect debris, it must be placed at the edge of the private roadway; crews will not enter residents’ yards.
A second pick up, as needed, will begin approximately one week later, on Thursday September, 8, 2005.
Any questions regarding storm debris should be directed to the Monroe County Solid Waste Department at 292-4432.
