The County’s debris removal contractor is still hard at work in Monroe County. As of the end of the day on Tuesday, November 29th, the contractor had collected 288,000 cubic yards of debris. The contractor began collecting white goods, seaweed and household hazardous waste this week. The final sweep for hurricane debris will begin on Monday, December 12th. To ensure proper removal, debris should be separated into the following categories and placed at curbside for pick up before December 12th:
· vegetative debris · seaweed · non-vegetative debris, such as furniture, carpeting, plywood, sheet rock, aluminum, wood decking and fence material. · white goods~ (household appliances) · household hazardous waste
Only storm debris will be picked up. Regular household trash shall be disposed of in the usual manner.
The County’s debris pick up does not include cars, boats, motor homes, campers, trailers, etc. Monroe County Emergency Operations Center is advising all residents who have damaged vehicles and water craft to contact their insurance carriers for direction in proper repair or disposal.
