Dignitaries from Monroe County, City of Key West and City of Marathon kicked off the inaugural run of the Lower Keys Bus service with a ribbon cutting at the Old Town Garage in Key West on Friday. The service is the result of years of planning to connect the Lower Keys to the bus service that runs between Marathon and Florida City. That service costs $1.85 each way. Now riders can travel the entire length of the Keys for $3.85 one way.
The Key West-to-Marathon service runs 10 times daily with departures from Searstown starting at 6:05 a.m. and the last departure at 11:15 p.m. The first two weeks of bus service between Key West and Marathon, September 2-15, 2005, is offered free of charge to everyone. After two weeks, the rate is $2 each way.
