Monroe County – Beginning on Tuesday, August 16th, 2005, contractors for
the Florida Department of Transportation, (FDOT) District Six, will
intermittently close one travel lane at MM 19.5 on US 1 during non-peak
daytime hours (9 AM - 2 PM) to place mast arm assemblies for a new traffic
signal being installed at Crane Boulevard on Sugarloaf Key.
During this closure, northbound and southbound traffic will share the
remaining open travel lane. Flagmen will direct northbound and southbound
motorists alternately through the work zone. Motorists are advised to
anticipate delays and use caution when traveling through this area. The
Department will monitor this work closely to insure that traffic impacts
are minimized throughout this operation.
This work is expected to last throughout the week; however, bad weather
or other unforeseen circumstances might impact this schedule. Should a
storm threaten, the Department will direct the contractor to clear the
roadway, safe up the construction zone and reopen travel lanes to
accommodate evacuation efforts.
