DRC, the County's debris removal contractor, has completed the second sweep of storm related debris as of this past weekend. Since the removal of all Hurricane Dennis related debris in unincorporated Monroe County has been completed, the owners and occupants of improved property are reminded that they must properly prepare their waste and use the solid waste and recycling collection services provided by the regular collector for the service area where their property is located.
Vegetative Waste may either be containerized in residential receptacles not exceeding 30 gallons in capacity and 50 pounds in weight or placed in bundles not exceeding 4 feet in length and/or 4 inches in diameter and 50 pounds in weight.
For Bulk Trash, non-vegetative, such as refrigerators, ranges, toilets, clothes dryers, bath tubs, water heaters, sinks, bicycles and other similar domestic appliances, household goods and furniture, the resident of a dwelling unit must notify the solid waste and recycling collection services collector for the service area where their property is located and place the discarded item(s) at the usual accessible pick-up location. The doors of appliances must be removed for safety reasons before placing them curbside.
Construction and Demolition Debris (C&D) are materials generally considered to be not water soluble and non-hazardous in nature such as steel, glass, brick, concrete, roofing material, pipe, gypsum wallboard, and lumber from the construction or destruction of a structure as part of a construction or demolition project. The owners and occupants of improved property must make special arrangements with a C&D Specialty Hauler for the collection and disposal of Construction and Demolition Debris.
For information concerning disposal of small quantities of household hazardous waste, please contact Monroe County Solid Waste at (305) 292-4432.
Any person found guilty of illegal dumping may be punished by a fine, by imprisonment or by both.
