Monroe County Facilities Maintenance workers David and Jose Perez (father & son team) work to repair Veterans Park at the entrance to the 7 mile bridge. Hurricane Rita brought rough seas and winds to the Park, accumulating water, sand and storm debris on the beach parking lot and picnic table structures. “All the root balls on the trees were exposed, there was 2 feet of sand in the picnic table areas, with trash and seaweed everywhere” stated Jose. The two men started working at the Park the day after the storm to repair the damage brought by Rita.
