Maintenance of County Buildings, Parks & Beaches
Maintenance of County roads and rights of way
Animal Control is responsible for enforcing state and county animal control regulations, protecting the public from the dangers and nuisances of uncontrolled, dangerous or feral animals, and protecting animals from cruelty, abuse or abandonment.
Maintenance of County vehicles, generators and rolling equipment
Collection of tolls and maintenance of road and right of way
Oversees solid waste collection & disposal activities, recycling services
This sub-department is responsible for maintaining over 153 acres of parks and beaches from Stock Island to Key Largo. This section is funded by a special taxing district.
 
Mission Statement
To maximize services in the most cost effective manner through teamwork, sufficient staffing and training. To guide and direct Public Works Division with integrity and fiscal responsibility.


Public Works Management is primarily responsible for guiding, directing and managing the Public Works Division consisting of Facilities Maintenance, including Detention Facilities, Higgs Beach and Unincorporated Parks & Beaches, Fleet Management, Roads and Bridges, and the Card Sound Toll Authority. Key responsibilities include preparation and monitoring of the Division's budget, coordination of work activities and evaluating programs through review of work plans, computerize work order systems, and conducting staff meetings and site inspections.
