Hello to all the Friends. We are thankful that the Library was unharmed during the hurricanes. We look forward to another year of supporting our local library. Thanks for your interest and donations! This past year’s activities included:
Two successful book sales.
Additional funding for Theresa’s Children’s Programs.
Funding for music CD’s and DVD’s.
Purchase of art boards for the conference room where local artists can display art.
Thanks to volunteer Bud Klippen for organizing this project.
Stop by and have a look at the changing exhibits.
Organized and sponsored four “Meet the Authors” programs where six local
authors read and spoke about their work. The variety of authors represented the
fiction, history, nature, and poetry genres. The hour-long programs were free to
the public and well-attended. See announcement and calendar in this letter
for this year’s events and join us at the library for evenings of book talk.

LIBRARIAN’S MESSAGE
has been a year of both progress and setbacks at the Big Pine Key Library. On the progress side, the Library now has a good DVD collection, featuring old classics, academy award winning titles, popular movie series and children’s titles. The Library’s audio book CD collection has expanded to the point where we are eliminating cassette books-on-tape as they wear out. On other side, the plans for wireless internet access in the Library have been placed on hold due to technical difficulties of the Library System-wide servers. Hopefully, with the new county administrator’s initiative to modernize and upgrade the county’s use of computer technology, these problems will be solved. I’d like to thank the Friends for support in 2005
and look forward to your help in 2006. Stephen Chambers, Manager BPKL.
A message for those who wish to volunteer: Some of you have expressed an interest in volunteering but have not been contacted. We do need volunteers but have not had a coordinated effort in the past. So, if you wish to volunteer for the Friends (mailings, book sales, events), please call 872-2055.
We will work with you to find the volunteer opportunity of your choice.
