I think people should have to go to cyber cafes. I don't think free internet access for people on vacation in a tourist community should take up our librarians' time and emergy.
I think priorities should be quality selection of books and good personal interaction with patrons. Marathon branch especially needs improvement with professional attitude, generally speaking.
I visit the library very frequently, usually five times per month, sometimes more. I have been to every branch in the Keys.
I think the Marathon library should take out the used bookshelves for sale, as there aren't very many good ones usually, and focus on having that room available for community groups since space is such a commodity in the Keys. I realize they already do that, just would like to see it as a main focus instead of as a "storage" area for used books that don't have much to offer the community.
I have used the internet access in the library in the past to look up book reviews on Amazon to help me decide what to check out. I find the internet circus of tourists at the library exptremely obnoxious and feel it has completely changed my library experience. The peaceful feeling the library used to have now feels hectic and that people who are not members of our community have taken over. It affects the librarians as they don't want to have to moniter internet time slots in my opinion. There are few places in the Keys that have little tourism and I would like to see our libraries be focused on our community members.
